Mumbaikars Wake Up To Heavy Downpour, IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert
Mumbai Rains: Mumbaikars Woke Up To The Heavy Downpour On Wednesday Morning With Parts Of The Financial Capital Receiving Heavy Rains, Creating Road Traffic And Waterlogging In Several Parts Of The City.
Mumbaikars woke up to the heavy downpour on Wednesday morning with parts of the financial capital receiving heavy rains, creating road traffic and waterlogging in several parts of the city. Apart from Mumbai, Konkan-Goa, Marathwada, Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra are witnessing heavy rainfall today since early morning.
Earlier in the morning, private weather forecast agency Skymet stated that intense rain will likely to continue in several parts of Mumbai for the next four to six hours.
In a tweet, it said, “Intense #rain to continue in parts of #Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, #Alibag, Virar, Bhiwandi , Kalyan, Dombivli, Dongri, Borivali, Goregaon, Mulund, Powai, Juhu, Dadar, Bandra, Chembur, Colaba, Navi Mumbai, Kurla, Mira bhayandar and Thane during next 4-6 hours.”
India Meteorological Department (IMD) said latest satellite and radar images indicate that a severe thunderstorm situation has formed currently over Mumbai and nearby areas, reported ANI.
On the other hand, cyclone Hikaa has hit Oman and is now likely to be weakened. The IMD department had advised fishermen from Gujarat to not venture into the sea as cyclone Hikaa.
In a bulletin, the IMD said, “Severe cyclonic storm ‘Hikaa’ moved nearly westwards with a speed of 22 kmph during past six hours and intensified rapidly into a very severe cyclonic storm over north-west and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea.”
Earlier, on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) department had predicted heavy rainfall for all four meteorological subdivisions. Local authorities late night on Tuesday warned of a couple of spells of showers in Mumbai during the night.
