Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Case: CBI raids Manju Verma's residence
In the latest development in the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home case, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday raided five premises of former Bihar Welfare Department Minister Manju Verma’s residence in Motihari and Bhagalpur in connection with the case, officials said.
Apart from five locations, search operations are also underway at the residence of Brajesh Thakur, who ran the NGO, they said.
The Muzaffarpur Shelter Home case triggered a nationwide outrage after the medical reports confirmed that 34 out of the 42 inmates were sexually assaulted.
According to the latest reports, Muzaffarpur shelter home is not the only one in the state of Bihar where women and girls have been sexually exploited. There are at least 14 other shelter homes similar to it across the state.
Earlier on India’s 72nd Independence Day, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar while speaking at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, said that his government will bring justice and punish the guilty in the glaring incident that came to light recently.

“Some glaring incidents have recently come to light. The guilty will not be spared. Our emphasis is on a quick investigation, arrests of the accused and speedy trial. We will try to uphold law and order under all circumstances,” Nitish Kumar said.
Manju Verma, an MLA for JD-U from Cheria-Bariarpur constituency in Begusarai district resigned on August 8, after her husband Chandeshwar Verma was accused of having a connection to the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home case.
"I have full faith in CBI and Judiciary, I am sure truth will be out and my husband will come out clean," said Manju Verma, soon after submitting her resignation to Nitish Kumar.
