Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had recently floated Awaaz-e-Punjab after quitting the BJP, said on Wednesday that it will not be a political party, though will be open for any form of alliance, ANI has reported.
According to reports, sources close to Sidhu say he is not interested in contesting upcoming elections in Punjab because he doesn’t want to divide the "anti-incumbency" vote. However, reports say he is rather open for a pre-poll alliance with parties contesting the Punjab poll.
The former Rajya Sabha MP floated Awaaz-e-Punjab on September 8 while speaking of 'shaking the system that has ruined Punjab'.Other members of the new front include former Indian hockey team captain Pargat Singh, a legislator of Punjab's ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, and two independent legislators, Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjeet Singh Bains. Elections to 117 Assembly seats in Punjab will be held next year.
