Karnataka: Newly elected Congress MLA Siddu B Nyamagouda dies in car accident
The newly elected Karnataka Congress MLA Siddu B Nyamagouda died in a car accident in Bagalkote district on Monday morning. Nyamagouda, a former union minister, was going to his constituency Jamkhandi from Goa when his car hit a roadside parapet wall, according to district Superintendent of Police Vamshi Kumar.
The lawmaker suffered critical injuries in the accident and died on the spot. He was survived by wife, two sons and three daughters, Kumar said.
Nyamagouda was re-elected as an MLA from Jamkhandi in Bagalkot district by defeating BJP’s Shrikanth Subbarao Kulkarni by over 2,500 votes in the recent Karnataka Assembly elections.
He also served as a cabinet minister in the PV Narasimha Rao’s government in 1990-91.
The 70-year-old Congress lawmaker was in Delhi and going to his constituency after landing in Goa earlier in the day.
“Deepest condolences on the passing away of our senior leader and Jamkhandi MLA, Shri Siddu B Nyamagouda. The Congress party stands by his family in this hour of grief,” the Congress party said, condoling the death of its lawmaker.
