Nirmala Sitharaman attacks Rahul Gandhi over Rafale deal
In response to allegation from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the NDA government was only pursuing the agreement signed by the UPA government and the French Government in 2008. A K Antony was the defence minister. She read relevant portion of the agreement in the House.Rafale is back in focus. Congress president on Friday Rahul Gandhi made allegation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.He said that Modi had a close relationship with a particular businessman and the Rafale contract was given to him after taking it away from HAL. He asked: "Why was the contract taken away from HAL and the youngsters of Karnataka and given to this businessman who has a debt of Rs 30,000 crore?”He asked the prime minister whether the Cabinet Committee for Security took this decision.The defence minister objected to it and the speaker said that he would be given an opportunity to explain his position.
