PM Modi snatched people’s money to put it in Nirav Modi’s pocket: Rahul Gandhi on cash crunch
The Scathing Attack From The Congress President Came Amid The Reports Of A Severe Cash Crunch In Several States After ATMs There Stopped Dispensing Cash.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the cash crunch in several states and said that he snatched people’s money to put it in Nirav Modi’s pocket.
Accusing Modi of destroying India’s banking system, Rahul said, “We were forced to stand in queues as he (PM Modi) snatched 500-1000 rupee notes from our pockets & put in Nirav Modi’s pocket.”
Continuing his tirade against the prime minister, Rahul said that Modi didn’t utter a word when PNB scam accused Nirav Modi fled with Rs 30,000 crore.
The scathing attack from the Congress president came amid the reports of a severe cash crunch in several states after ATMs there stopped dispensing cash.
He also accused Modi of running away from the debate in Parliament over key issues, including “Rafale scam” and Nirav Modi fraud case.
“PM is scared to stand against us in Parliament. If we get even 15 minutes to speak in Parliament, he won’t be able to stand against us, be it the Rafale issue or Nirav Modi fraud case,” the Gandhi scion said.
Cash crunch 'temporary', being resolved quickly: Government
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, terming the cash crunch temporary, said that there was adequate currency in circulation and the issue was being tackled quickly.
“Have reviewed the currency situation in the country. Overall there is more than the adequate currency in circulation and also available with the Banks. The temporary shortage caused by ‘sudden and unusual increase’ in some areas is being tackled quickly,” Jaitley tweeted.
The Opposition Congress, however, called it a “gross mismanagement” by the Modi government and asked whether it was a deliberate move taken by the Center.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee too attacked the government for the “financial emergency” and said that the cash crunch was a reminder of the demonetisation.
“Seeing reports of ATMs running out of cash in several States. Big notes missing. Reminder of #DeMonetisation days. Is there a Financial Emergency going on in the country? #CashCrunch #CashlessATMs,” Banerjee tweeted.
