Police have arrested 23 alleged timber smugglers and booked four of them under the stringent Public Safety Act as part of a crackdown on timber felling in Shopian district of Kashmir.
“Police has launched a massive crackdown by arresting 23 timber smugglers including four notorious persons involved in a number of forest smuggling cases.
“Timber measuring 216.31 cubic feet has been seized from these smugglers,” said a police spokesman on Monday.
He said the four notorious smugglers who have been booked under PSA are Gowhar Parray alias Setha, Shafi Ladi, Riyaz Paswa and Sajad Paswal.
