Jammu and Kashmir Police has played a pivotal role in maintaining peace in the state, a minister said on Sunday.
Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga said that police personnel have made supreme sacrifices to bring peace.
He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the 6th State Level Marathon Run for Fun, organised by the state police under its Civic Action Programme, at Gulshan Ground.
He said the role of sports in physical and mental development of the youth is of great importance.
It creates discipline and comradeship among people which, in turn, helps a nation to prosper in all spheres of life.
Ganga advised the youth to take part in sports activities for maintaining their physical and mental fitness.
He appreciated the efforts of the state police for organising such activities in the state, benefitting the youth to channelise their energies in the field of sports. Thousands of men, women and children participated in the marathon, which was flagged off by Director General of Police S P Vaid.
The police chief said that they had organised various sports events in Jammu under the Civic Action Programme and that the people, particularly the youth, have shown great interest in these events.
