TikTok, Which Has 200 Million Users In India, Was Hitting Headlines In April This Year, When The Madurai Bench Of Madras High Court Had Directed The Government To Ban The Mobile Application, As It Voiced Concerns Over The Pornographic And Inappropriate Contents Being Made Available Through Such Apps.
TikTok which has become a new addiction to a lot of people across the globe, also brought serious concerns aplenty, especially for youngsters and children. The latest victim of this new age addiction was a 24-year-old Hyderabad man, who drowned in a lake on the city outskirts while taking bath and recording a video of it on mobile app TikTok.
The deceased, identified as Narasimhalu, drowned after he moved deep into the lake while his cousin was recording a video of their bathing on Tuesday evening, according to reports. The victim did not know swimming, a police official said, adding on seeing him struggling, his cousin rushed out of the lake and informed locals, who retrieved the body.
Meanwhile, the video shot before the incident, showing the two men splashing water and dancing, has already gone viral on social media platforms.
TikTok, which has 200 million users in India, was hitting headlines in April this year, when the Madurai bench of Madras High Court had directed the government to ban the mobile application, as it voiced concerns over the "pornographic and inappropriate contents" being made available through such apps. However, the ban was lifted by the Madras High Court three weeks later.
The mobile application, which was launched in early 2019, is a social video app owned by China's Beijing ByteDance Co. It reached the one billion download mark in February. It is a popular app worldwide and was the fourth most downloaded non-game app in 2018.
