Thousands of people in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil on Monday protested against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to India.
The protesters shouted slogans against the Israeli PM and burnt Netanyahu effigy, American and the Israeli flags. The protesters were holding placards and Palestinian flags to express solidarity with the people of Palestine.
The protests were organised by the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT).
While addressing a press conference, the chairman of IKMT said, “the land of Mahatma Gandhi can't tolerate war-criminal like Netanyahu.”
He said India has always supported Palestine but the sudden “paradigm shift” will make India democratically weak internationally.
Similar protests were held in Delhi on Sunday as a group of men showed crossed-out images of Israeli PM that read "Go back, Netanyahu” in English and Hindi.
Last month, India joined 127 other countries to vote in the United Nations General Assembly in favour of a resolution opposing the recent decision of US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Benjamin Netanyahu who arrived in India on Sunday said he was ‘disappointed’ by India’s rejection of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
However, he said one single UN vote will not affect the “special relationship” between the two countries, between their people and then between the leaders.
He termed India-Israel relationship as a “marriage made in heaven” but consecrated on earth.
