Pune to witness a 'zero shadow' moment on May 13
In This Biannual Zero-shadow Spectacle The Sun Is Exactly Overhead And The Shadow Of Any Vertical Object Disappears For A Short Period Of Time.
Pune will witness a biannual 'zero shadow' marvel on May 13 between 12 pm and 1 pm.
According to Arvind Paranjpye, director of the Nehru Planetarium, it is possible to get rid of your shadow, even if it is only for a few minutes.
Explaining the phenomenon he said, "It occurs due to the northward and southward motion of the sun and when it is positioned at 23 1/2 degree altitude, the sun's rays appear exactly overhead around noon."
"A similar situation will arise on July 30 when sun travels backward from south to north, retracing its rays. However, it will be monsoon here at that time and hence, we may not be able to witness it." Paranjpye added.
