Rajasthan: Ajmer Police arrests six people in woman's murder case who was branded as witch
The Woman Was Allegedly Made To Eat Faeces, Tortured And Beaten To Death By Her Relatives, Who Accused Her Of Being A Witch, The Police Informed On Sunday.
The Rajasthan police arrested six people in connection with a murder of a 40-year-old woman who was branded as a witch and allegedly made to eat excreta in Kekri area of Ajmer district.
Karuna Phillip, a member of Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti, said after reaching the spot, the came to know that the woman was burnt, assaulted, fed excreta and made to sit on ashes.
The woman was allegedly made to eat faeces, tortured and beaten to death by her relatives, who accused her of being a witch, the police informed on Sunday.
The incident took place on August 3 in Kekri, a block around 135 km from the state capital, they said.
“Kanya Devi Raigar was branded a witch and severely tortured before being beaten to death, she was also made to eat faeces by her relatives,” Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ajmer, Rajendra Singh, had said.
The police had registered a case on Monday against four people –Pinky Raigar, Sonia Raigar, Mahaveer Raigar and Chandra Prakash Raigar — under relevant IPC sections, including murder, and provisions of the Rajasthan Prevention of Witch-Hunting Act, 2015.The woman succumbed to injuries at the spot, the police had said.
