Protests rocked the Hyderabad Central University once again on Wednesday morning over the suicide of PhD scholar Rohith Vemula in January. The university has witnessed several protests following Vemula’s alleged suicide. The protesting students were taken into custody when they broke open the university gates. The students are demanding Vice Chancellor Appa Rao's dismissal.
The discussion by the university on the appointment of an ombudsman led to the protests as the students demanded that Rao should be kept out of the selection process. They alleged that “he is also under scrutiny" for his role in Vemula's suicide.Rohith Vemula was found hanging in his hostel on January 17 even as he was banned from the campus and other areas over clashes with an activist from a students’ group. The students have since then protesting demanding justice for Vemula.
