An airport advisory committee today sought Rs 171 crore from Central government for modernisation of the city Airport, located at Madhurapudi near here.
The committee held a meeting here which was attended by local MP M Murali Mohan.
“Rajahmundry Airport will be modernised with Rs 171 crore. The proposal will be sent to Union government and sanction will be accorded,” Murali Mohan told reporters.
He said flight services to Tirupati, Bengaluru and Chennai will soon be launched from the airport.
“The modernisation includes facilities for landing of flights during night, besides providing all types of facilities to passengers, extension of existing runway,” he said, adding that steps are on to increase the passengers’ frequency.
