RSS Defamation Case: Rahul Gandhi to appear before Bhiwandi court today
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday arrived in Mumbai to appear before a court in the adjoining Thane district in a defamation case filed against him for his alleged remarks against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The Congress president will appear before the Bhiwandi court in Thane at 11 am on Tuesday.
Earlier on May 2, the court had asked Gandhi to appear before it on June 6 (Today) to record his plea in the defamation case filed by RSS worker Rajesh Kunte in 2014.
The case against the Gandhi scion was filed for his speech at an election rally where he had claimed that the RSS was behind the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
Apart from appearing before the Bhiwandi court, Gandhi was expected to interact with Congress workers and corporators in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) during his two-day Maharashtra visit.
The speculations are rife that the Congress president may also meet top Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders during his visit. The Congress and the NCP are mulling an alliance in Maharashtra ahead of 2019 general elections.
