The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Centre to frame guidelines to regulate mushrooming coaching institutes for Medical and Engineering entrance exams.
The apex court observed that the marks obtained in entrance exam should not be the only basis for admissions in these courses but 40 per cent weightage should also be given to marks scored in school exams.
The Supreme Court said though the private coaching cannot be banned but they need to be regulated in order to commercialise education.
