Gujarat govt need not rebuild shrines damaged during Godhra riot: Supreme Court

The Gujarat High Court Had Ordered The State Government To Provide Compensation Against Repair Of Religious Structures Across The State.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday set aside the Gujarat High Court order in connection with the re-building of mosques destroyed during the state's 2002 riots. The Apex court asked state government to provide compensation as per their fixed guidelines, and not as per high court order.

The Gujarat high court had ordered the state government to provide compensation against repair of religious structures across the state. The high court had also ordered to access the damage of all 26 districts under the supervision of district judge.

The Apex Court accepted state government’s argument to provide compensation for the religious structure as per the fixed policies under shop and residences.

Now, it is up to the state government that what it would disburse as compensation for the damage of religious structure during 2002 Gujarat riots.
