Shreya, who was admitted to Hallet Hospital in Kanpur after suffering serious head injury was operated upon and the procedure was successful, CMO Ramayan Prasad said.
The girl, a resident of Tollygunge in West Bengal, was injured when the 15 coaches of the Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed while it was crossing a bridge near Rura Railway Station in Kanpur Rural district on Wednesday.
Pieces of her skull had inserted the brain. The operation was conducted on Tuesday night and she is now in ICU, Prasad said.
Following the derailment of the Sealdah-Ajmer Express, 42 of the injured were admitted at Mati district hospital in Kanpur (Rural), while 20 seriously injured were undergoing treatment at the Hallet hospital.
The CMO said treatment and medicines are being provided free of charge to the injured as per Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's direction.
