An additional sessions judge’s wife and his son were shot at by his guard near Arcadia market in Gurugram’s Sector-49 on Saturday. The accused has been arrested by the police. Following the incident, the forensic team rushed to the spot.
According to the police, the incident took place around 3:30 pm near Arcadia market where Ritu, 38, and Dhruv, 18, had gone for shopping.
A video tweeted by news agency ANI shows the gunman, identified as Mahipal Singh, tries to drag Dhruv, who was lying unconscious, inside a car. But when he couldn't, Singh left him on the road and drove away in the car in which they had come to the market. According to reports, Singh even called the judge on his way to inform him that he had shot the latter’s wife and son.
Mahipal then reached a police station where he fired again and escaped from there. He was arrested from Faridabad road a little while later.DCP Gurgaon (East) said both of them have been admitted to a hospital and are being treated.
"Some locals informed the police about gunshots being fired outside the Arcadia market. When a police team reached the spot, they found Ritu and Dhruv lying in a pool of blood," DCP-East Sulochna Gajraj told news agency PTI.
It is yet to be known what prompted Mahipal to take this step. However, initial probes suggest that he was suffering from depression and was not happy with "misbehaviour" of the judge's family.
Ritu has suffered bullet injury in her chest, while Dhruv in his head. "They were taken to the Medanta Hospital where they are undergoing treatment but their condition is critical," according to an officer.
