The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested Inspector General of Police Zahoor H Zaidi, Deputy SP Manoj Joshi and six other police officers in connection with the custodial death of an accused in Shimla gangrape case.
The CBI had registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) in the case on July 22. These eight officers were probed by the agency since then.
Earlier, a six-member investigation team including sleuths of the CBI, officials of Central Forensic Science Laboratory and doctors from AIIMS visited the spot last month from where body of a raped minor girl was recovered.
The team on the directions of the Himachal High Court, had begun the investigation into the gangrape and murder of a 16-year-old girl.
On July 4, the victim did not return home from Government Senior Secondary School, Mahasu. Since the incident came to surface, hundreds of protesters including the girl’s relatives and friends are demanding arrest of the offenders to the earliest.
