The Students Said They Were Protesting Against The Delhi Police For Being A "mute Spectator" While A Man Fired A Pistol At Anti-CAA Protestors Near Jamia.
Scores of students from different universities gathered outside the Delhi Police headquarters at ITO in New Delhi on Thursday night condemning the attack on a student near the Jamia Millia Islamia. The students said they were protesting against the Delhi Police for being a "mute spectator" while a man fired a pistol at anti-CAA protestors near Jamia Millia Islamia University.
A man fired a pistol at a group of anti-CAA protesters in the city's Jamia Millia Islamia University on Thursday, injuring a student, before calmly walking away while waving the firearm above his head and shouting "Yeh lo aazadi" amid heavy police presence in the area.
The man was subsequently walked towards police and only then the policemen could snatch his weapon and taken him into custody. The students were carrying placards and raising slogans against police and the government.
The Opposition is saying that the shooting on Jamia students was a direct result of the hate speech given by the BJP leaders. "The hate-speech and call to violence by Union ministers and BJP leaders - along with the silence of the PM - has led to this shameful outcome. This is the kind of India this govt wants to create," CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury tweeted.
The attack on students protesting Narendra Modi government's CAA came days after Union Minister Anurag Thakur incited people to chant "Goli Maro Saalon Ko". At an election rally in poll bound Delhi, Thakur had himself chanted "Desh Ke Gaddaron Ko" and the crowd present their responded with "Goli Maro Saalon Ko".
