Sunanda Pushkar death case: Shashi Tharoor to face trial in Sessions Court
The Court Also Dismissed Subramanian Swamy's Plea Seeking To Assist The Court In The Case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court committed the Sunanda Pushkar death case to the Sessions Court. The court also dismissed Subramanian Swamy's plea seeking to assist the court in the case. The next date of hearing the case is February 21.
The criminal case against Shashi Tharoor, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, was sent to a sessions court today for trial.
Tharoor’s wife, according to the charge sheet filed by Delhi police in May, committed suicide by overdosing on antidepressant pills. The police had named Tharoor as an accused in the case.
Pushkar was found dead in a five-star hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014. Police, initially, treated the case as murder but letter termed it suicide after it failed to gather evidence to support its previous claim.
Tharoor, however, termed the police charge sheet “preposterous and baseless” and said that charges against him in his wife’s death case were the product of "malicious & vindictive campaign" against him.
