3 Terrorists Killed, Policeman Injured In Firing At Jammu’s Nagrota Toll Plaza, National Highway And Schools Closed
One Of The Terrorists Was Believed To Have Been Killed In The Ensuing Gunfight, They Said, Adding That The Operation Was Going On.
A group of 3-4 militants, travelling in a truck, opened fire at a police team at a toll plaza on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Friday, injuring a policeman, officials said. "Three terrorists have been killed in the encounter," news agency ANI quoted IG Jammu Mukesh Singh as saying.
The firing took place around 5 am when the police team stopped a Srinagar-bound truck for checking near the toll plaza in the Ban area of Nagrota, the officials said.
The group of 3-4 terrorists was on their way to Srinagar when they were intercepted by the police team at the toll plaza, DGP Dilbag Singh said. A massive search operation has been launched to track down the terrorists.
Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Closed
Senior police officials were at the spot to oversee the combing operations. Traffic was suspended on the highway after the attack, the officials said. Authorities also ordered closure of schools in Nagrota as a precautionary measure.
The attack comes days after a terrorist was killed in encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter took place after terrorists opened fire on a patrol team in Bijbehara, injuring a soldier.
The jawan suffered injuries after he was hit by a bullet in the Arwani area, officials said. As the searches were going on, security forces personnel were fired upon, triggering retaliation, the officials said. In the ensuing gunfight, one unidentified terrorist was killed.
