Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Sunday stepped down amid wake of massive protests against for women in local body elections. Ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Shurhozelie Liezietsu will soon take over charge from current Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, according to reports.
This comes amid a stand-off between various tribal bodies and the state government over elections to urban local bodies (ULB) in the state. Protestors had set Friday as the deadline for chief minister Zeliang to step down or face further protests.
