The Supply Of Food And Commodities Is Likely To Be Affected For The Next Two Days After The Truck Owners On Monday Went On A 36-hour Long Token Strike Against Disruptive Policies Of The Good And Sevices Tax (GST).
The supply of food and commodities is likely to be affected for the next two days after the truck owners on Monday went on a 36-hour long token strike against disruptive policies of the Good and Sevices Tax (GST).
All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) called the strike against GST saying the scenario of new tax regime had critically impaired the transport trade.Â
The truck owners said the daily revisions of diesel prices are creating a huge burden on the transport sector and demanded inclusion of diesel in the GST ambit.
"This is a token strike to highlight the legitimate concerns and gravity of the present disruptive conditions. More than 80 lakh trucks are expected to be off the road during the strike," AIMTC Executive President S.K. Mittal told IANS.
"As part of a nationwide stir, goods transport associations will observe Chakka jam from 8 pm of October nine to 8 pm of October 10 in the state to protest the adverse impact on the sector", president of Calcutta Goods Transport Association Prabhat Mittal said.
Mittal said, "implementation of GST had put coercive registration and unnecessary compliances by truckers and transporters".
He said the government had put double taxation in the reverse charge mechanism (RCM) and forward charge mechanism (FCM) at five per cent and 12 percent respectively.
However, the Truck Owners’ Federation of Odisha did not take part in the strike saying it has nothing to do with the token agitation.Â
