At least two people were killed and five others injured on Tuesday after their boat capsized in tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik expressed grief over the unfortunate incident. He also announced ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each to kin of the dead and directed authorities to ensure best possible treatment for the injured.
The governor prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families in their hour of grief. He has wished speedy recovery to the injured," Satya Pal Malik’s spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the tourism department officials said that two people were killed and five injured during a rafting accident in Lidder river. "The injured have been shifted to Srinagar for specialised treatment," the officials added.
The officials further clarified that the accident had nothing to do with the rafting championship being held in Lidder in the memory of Rouf Ahmad Dar. It is to be noted that Rouf Ahmad Dar died while saving five tourists, including two foreigners, during a rafting accident in tourist hotspot Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on June 1, 2019.
Director of the Disaster Management cell in Kashmir Amir Ali had said, “One raft capsized at the rafting point of Pahalgam’s Mawoora. It was caught in sudden gusty winds.” “All the passengers onboard fell in the fast flowing water of Lidder. The tourist guide, Rouf Ahmed Dar, without caring for his own safety rescued all the tourists but lost his life,” he added.
