Ayodhya Dharma Sabha: VHP vows to build temple at Ram Janmabhoomi, rejects land-sharing formula
The temple town of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh turned into a fortress with multiple security layers ahead of Vishva Hindu Parishad's (VHP) 'Dharam Sabha' to push for the construction of a grand temple of Lord Ram on the ruins of a 16th-century mosque in the holy city. The organisers of the Dharma Sabha claimed that over 3 lakh devotees of Lord Rama are likely to gather for the largest congregation of Hindus since December 6, 1992, when the Babri Mosque was demolished. The Dharma Sabha of the VHP will be held at Bade Bhakt Mal Ki Baghia near the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas workshop.
Besides the VHP Dharma Sabha, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, who arrived in Ayodhya on Saturday, will also address party workers over the issue of Ram temple in Ayodhya. With the two major events lined up, the Uttar Pradesh Police has deployed massive security in and around the city to avoid any untoward incident. One additional DGP, one deputy inspector general (DIG), three senior superintendents of police (SSPs), 10 additional SPs, 21 deputy SPs, 160 inspectors, 700 constables, 42 companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary, five companies of the Rapid Action Force, Anti-Terrorism Squad commandos and drones have been deployed in Ayodhya, a UP police spokesperson said.
