YC Modi, served once as SIT member on Gujarat riots, appointed as NIA DG
The Appointments Committee Of The Cabinet (ACC) On Monday Named Y C Modi To Be The Next NIA Chief. The Agency Has Been Tasked With Investigation Of Terror Financing Related Cases.
1984 batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre Y C Modi who was once a part of the team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing 2002 Gujarat riots has been named as the next chief (Director General) of the apex investigating agency. Â
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Monday named Y C Modi to be the next NIA chief. The agency has been tasked with investigation of terror financing related cases.Â
Modi will take charge from Sharad Kumar on completion of his tenure after October 30. Senior IPS officer, Rajni Kant Misra, has been appointed Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
In order to ensure a smooth transition of power Y C Modi has also been approved for the appointment of Officer on Special Duty with immediate effect. Â Â
It should be noted that Sharad Kumar who was appointed as the Director General of the NIA in 2013 has already been given two extensions.Â
Y C Modi will hold the post till his superannuation, i.e. May 31, 2021, said the ACC order. Rajnikant Mishra will hold office till August 31, 2019. He is presently serving as the Additional Director General in the Border Security Force (BSF).Â
