Kerala State Assembly Passes Resolution Demanding Withdrawal Of New Citizenship Law
Kerala State Assembly On Tuesday Passed A Resolution Demanding To Withdraw Citizenship Amendment Act.
Kerala State Assembly on Tuesday passed resolution demanding the withdrawal of Citizenship Amendment Act. The resolution was earlier moved by Kerala chief Minister Pinarayi Vijyan. While presenting the resolution, Kerala CM said that CAA goes against the ‘secular’ fabric of the nation and 'would lead to religion-based discrimination'.
The ruling CPI(M)-LDF and the Opposition Congress led UDF supported the resolution while BJP’s lone MLA and former Union minister O Rajagopal was the only dissenting voice in the one-day special session.
Although, the state assembly was convened regarding the extension of the reservation for SC, ST in the assembly and the parliament for another decade, the issue of CAA was also taken up.
The Kerala chief minister had earlier announced that united front will be formed against the Citizenship Amendment Act. “The meeting of political, religious and social leaders, held in Thiruvananthapuram, has tasked me and the Opposition leader to plan future agitations against CAA”, Vijayan added in a tweet.
BJP MLA O Rajagopal has opposed the resolution moved by Chief Minister against the new citizenship act, saying, “It shows the narrow political mindset.”
