The Goddess is known by many names- Padamasani, Vidyavahini, Parvati, Maheshwari and Gauri.
According to the beliefs, Lord Kartikeya also known as Skand Kumar is the son of the Goddess, thus Skandmata is derived from the same.
She possesses four arms and is seated on a lotus. She holds lotus in two hands and uses the other hand to support Lord Kartikeya sitting on her lap. Her fourth hand is raised to bless the devotees.
