Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, who planned the 26/11 Mumbai attack and was granted bail by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad yesterday, has been taken into custody under the Maintenance of Public Order ( MPO) at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail.
A senior government source said that the government has decided to contest the approval of Lakhvi's bail in superior courts, reported the Dawn.
The ATC had granted bail to Lakhvi after his post-arrest bail plea was accepted and Judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi had set his bail at one million rupees.
The decision elicited strong criticism from India and came just days after one of the deadliest terror attacks on the country.
Lakhvi is one of the seven persons charged with planning and helping to carry out the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The other six jihadists including, Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jamil Riaz, Younas Anjum, Jamil Ahmed, Mazhar Iqbal and Abdul Majid, are facing trial in Adiala jail for their involvement in the attack.
