7 killed as Typhoon Kalmaegi hits China
In Hainan Province, One Died And Another Is Missing After The Storm Brought Strong Winds And Rainstorms To The Island, The State-run Xi A News Agency Reported.
At least seven people were killed after Typhoon Kalmaegi hit southern China and left a trail of destruction, authorities said on Wednesday.
While four persons were killed by falling trees, another died when a building collapsed. One person was drowned in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the regional civil affairs department said on Wednesday.
In Hainan Province, one died and another is missing after the storm brought strong winds and rainstorms to the island, the state-run Xi a news agency reported.
In Chengmai County of Hainan, of the 1,394 fishing boats, 835 which returned to harbour for shelter sank due to the typhoon.
Typhoon Kalmaegi, which is the fifteenth typhoon to hit China this year, made a landfall in Hainan at a speed of 40 meters per second at 9.40 AM yesterday and then Guangdong Province.
More than 1,000 houses collapsed and millions of people were affected in Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi provinces.
Direct economic losses in Guangdong were 1 billion yuan, the provincial civil affairs department said.
