A Belgian chocolate maker has landed in unwanted trouble because of its name! The makers of ISIS chocolates are changing the name to ‘Libeert’ as it is an abbreviation similar to that of a terrorist group called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
This similarity has led to a slump in sales and hence the company took the decision to go for a name change.
The company was founded in 1923 as "Italo Suisse" and had to shorten the name to ISIS in 2013 as it was no longer had association with either Italy or Switzerland.
But the year 2014 saw ISIS grabbing headlines globally, which affected the company sales badly.
The makers of ISIS chocolates will change their name to ‘Libeert’ to avoid association with the terror group formerly known as ISIS.
“When we saw that the orders, which were planned to get in at the beginning September for this Christmas, they didn't come in from the States or the UK, and we said: 'What's going on here?†The director of the company Ignace Libeert said.
“And they said yes, we have orders but the name ISIS is actually disturbing because our consumers are very upset with that name,†he added.
