Coronavirus: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Extends Shutdown To April 29
Andrew Cuomo Said The COVID-19 Death Rate In New York Was "effectively Flat" For The Past Two Days But Extended 'New York On PAUSE' Till End Of The Month.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday extended the shutdown in the state till April 29. During the lockdown all schools and non-essential businesses will remain closed in the state. New York state has been the epicenter of America's deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Cuomo, who has been praised for his role as governor in the pandemic, said the COVID-19 death rate in New York was "effectively flat" for the past two days but extended 'New York on PAUSE' till end of the month.
"Now is not the time to be lax," he told reporters.
"We need to #StayHome and stay properly distanced." he later tweeted.
Cuomo also increased the maximum fine for violations of state-mandated social distancing rules from $500 to $1000. "This is an enemy we have underestimated since day one," he tweeted. (With Agency Inputs)
