Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has been appointed as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), according to DawnNews. Lt Gen Zubair Hayat has been named Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and Lt Gen Zubair Hayat will be promoted to the rank of four-star generals. Lt Gen Bajwa is a career infantry officer belonging to the Baloch Regiment. The generals are from the PMA’s 62nd long course. He has extensive experience of handling affairs in PoK and the northern areas.
When General Raheel formally retires, Bajwa in a formal handover will take charge of the world's sixth-largest armyby troop numbers. The generals would take their posts after current Army chief Raheel Sharif retires on Tuesday.
Raheel in January had declared he would not seek extension. “I will retire on the due date,” he had said. Post ofArmy chief is the most powerful in Pakistan.
