Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Saeed’s Brother-in-law Abdul Rehman Makki Has Been Arrested By Punjab Police In Pakistan’s Gujranwala
Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed’s brother-in-law Abdul Rehman Makki has been arrested by Punjab police in Pakistan’s Gujranwala, according to Geo news. Makki was accused of making hate speeches and criticizing the government’s action against banned outfits. He is the head of JuD’s political and international affairs. The JuD is believed to be the front organisation for the LeT which is responsible for carrying out the Mumbai attack that killed 166 people. It had been declared as a foreign terrorist organisation by the US in June 2014. "The arrest of Abdul Rehman Makki took place during the crackdown against outlawed organisations. He is accused of hate speeches and criticizing steps taking by government under FATF GUIDELINES. Makki has been arrested under the maintenance of Public Order Act,” Geo news quoted Pakistan’s interior ministry source as saying. Earlier, Pakistan's Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) banned 11 trusts affiliated to Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s Jamaat ud Dawa, Filah e Insaniyat Foundation and Pulwama blasts strategist Masood Azhar’s Jaish-e-Mohammed. The action was taken in continuation to the National Action Plan. According to WION, the final decision to ban the organisations was taken by Interior Minister Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Shah as under Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, a decision to ban and place organisations under observation is taken by the Ministry of Interior.
