The world's third-largest sodium sulphate inland lake which is also known as the country's (China) 'Dead Sea' has transformed into pink colour from one side, attracting huge inquisitive visitors to the salt lake.
According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, due to the presence of algae known as Dunaliella salina, it changes its original colour, making it green from one side and pink on the other.
The salt lake which is located in the northern China's Yuncheng city in Shanxi province is one of the three inland salt lakes with sodium sulphate in the world, covering an area of 132 square kilometres.
This is not the first time this lake come in the news, in winters this lake was turned into blood-red due to the presence of the same algae. And the dual-colours have lasted for many areas, the outlook only disappears in winter when the lake dries.According to geologists, it was formed about 50 million years ago. The salt content in it is similar to that of the Dead Sea, allowing humans to float on it, thus earning the moniker: 'China's Dead Sea'.
Chinese people began making use of the lake at least 4,000 years ago. Today, the lake still produces salt for industrial use, the report said.
