Saeed a serious threat, admits Pak defence minister
Saeed Has Been Placed Under House Arrest And Listed Under Anti-terror Law.
Facing heat from the United States over measures to curtail terrorism, Pakistan, for the first time, acknowledged that Hafiz Saeed could pose a serious threat to the civilized society.
Saeed has been placed under house arrest and listed under anti-terror law. As per media reports in Pakistan, country’s defence minister Khwaja Asif dubbed him a threat and justified his arrest in a larger interest.
Welcoming Pakistan’s move with caution, Ministry of External affairs Vikas Swarup had said on Monday that effective action mandated internationally against him and his terrorist organisations and colleagues is a logical first step in bringing them to justice.
As the United States has kept a close eye on the nation, the government of Pakistan was coerced to take some concrete steps against Saeed, including financial sanction and public meetings of his organisations.
It is also evident that since Pakistan’s new Army chief Qaamar Bajwa assumed office, there was a decline in cross-border firing.
