President Xi Jinping Saturday appointed Luo Zhaohui, a senior diplomat with previous assignments in Pakistan and Canada, as China’s new ambassador to India.
Luo, 54, who had also served as Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan previously was China’s envoy to Canada from 2014 to 2016.
He is familiar with India as he worked as third and later Second Secretary in Chinese Embassy in India from 1989 to1993. He had a four year stint as Ambassador to Pakistan starting from 2006.
Later Luo served as director general of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2014. He will take over from former Chinese ambassador to India Le Yucheng who left New Delhi in April, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
