According to media reports, at least two people have been injured in the shooting. However, the authorities have confirmed the incident is not terrorism-related.
The shooting is connected to an incident between two students, and is not terrorist-related, Grasse Town Hall said.
Media reports said that one person has been arrested following the shooting, and there is a special police unit at the scene.
The detained person is a high school student aged 17. The student was allegedly carrying a rifle, two handguns and two grenades.
The shooting came just hours after a letter bomb explosion left one IMF employee in Paris.
France has been on high alert following a spate of high-profile terrorist attacks in its major cities in the past two years.
