Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has commenced his 'Kisan Yatra' from Deoria in eastern Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday morning he addressed his first rally and first khaat sabha during his 2500km long 'padhyatra'.

The agenda of the long door-to-door campaign is to help 'secure rights of the poor, farmers and labourers in government resources', Gandhisaid in a tweet.

The 'Deoria to Dilli yatra', which is starting from Panchlari Kritpura village, is marked by a door-to-door campaign of collecting 'Kisan Mangpatras' (charters of farmers demands), one-to-one interaction with farmers through Khaat (cot) Sabhas, a concept similar to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Chai par Charcha' during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, and roadside meetings.

Highlights of his yatra on day 1: 

#Rahul Gandhi started his door-to-door campaign by visiting houses of farmers in Panchlari Kritpura village. 

#The villagers, after meeting Congress vice-president, filled Kisan Maang Patras outlining their demands. 

#Main demands put forward by farmers were: loan redemption, less electricity bill, better support price for their produce. 

#Rahul Gandhi also offered prayers at the Doodhbaba Mandir in Deoria en route his door-to-door campaign. 

#"We will take problems and sorrows of farmers to Modi ji," says Rahul Gandhi during his first rally  in his mahayatra starting Tuesday.

Plan for the campaign: 

#Rahul Gandhi will hold ‘khaat sabha’ across 39 districts and also road shows in numerous large towns and cities.

#Congress leader will cover as many as 233 assembly constituencies to reach out to people ahead of crucial polls slated early next year.

#Congress vice president will launch his month-long maha yatra traversing 2,500-km through Uttar Pradesh

#The Yatra from Deoria in eastern UP to Delhi began on September 6.

#Rahul will hold one-to-one interactions with farmers at ‘Khaat Sabha’ in Rudrapur

#He will also hold Kisan Mahasabha in different districts of the poll bound state.

#Rahul's month-long yatra will cover 39 districts and 55 parliamentary constituencies

#A team of party spokespersons will brief the media about the yatra.

#During the yatra, Rahul Gandhi will hold Khaat Sabhas (meetings on charpoy) with farmers at Deoria and Kushinagar.
