Jaipur:
Under the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign in Rajasthan, doctors associated with Indian Medical Association would adopt a girl and sponsor her education till graduation.
The decision was taken after Health Minister Rajendra Rathore urged the IMA office bearers to associate with the campaign and to make all possible efforts to improve the sex ratio in the state.
“A detailed discussion on sponsoring girls’ education by doctors was today held with IMA President Dr S S Agrawal. IMA members would voluntarily adopt a girl and sponsor her education till the level of graduation,” Additional Director-National Health Mission, Neeraj K Pawan, said.
The members will have to submit the details of the girls to the health department.
He said that meritorious girls from underprivileged and poor families living in slum areas are being identified and the doctors or anyone else can sponsor their education.
