New Delhi:

Delhi-NCR’s air quality rolled down on Monday with pollution level hitting the ‘hazardous category’ as the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovered around PM10 levels at 707 and PM2.5 at 663. Thick layers of smog were witnessed across Delhi-NCR and after Diwali the situation could deteriorate further.

Schools in Delhi-NCR are conducting the morning assembly indoors and have instructed students to wear masks during outdoor classes.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

Let us take a look at the Do’s and Don’ts during smog:

  1. Remain indoors if you have breathing difficulty.
  2. Keep children indoors as much as possible.
  3. Drink plenty of water and fluids.
  4. Don’t use main roads. Pollution drops away substantially when you are walking in smaller lanes away from main roads.
  5. Use nasal filters or air purifiers, which will provide short-term relief.
  6. Regular intake of fruits rich in Vitamin C, Magnesium and Omega  Fatty acids.
  7. Don’t step out or indulge in outdoor activities during early morning and evening hours.
  8. Avoid strenuous activity, which leads to inhalation of greater volumes of minute pollutants.
  9. To keep some air-purifying plants in homes and offices like Aloe Vera, etc..
  10.  In order to keep yourself safe from burning of eyes and skin, keep yourself fully covered. Take care of your eyes too and wear shades before stepping out.
