At the time, when Pulwama is in news for all the terror incidents and threats to political workers, a Sarpanch from valley is setting an outstanding example of patriotism in South Kashmir. He has shown exemplary courage despite surviving an attack that changed his life for ever. 12 Bullets in his body did not deter his courage.
The Sarpanch Ghulam Mohammad Mir says that every drop of his blood is dedicated for the nation. He is a India born and will die as an Indian. He says, “I am born from Indian motherland, I am Indian and will live as an Indian and die as an Indian. My Father was Indian and will always remain so. I will remain Indian always.'' Ghulam Mohamad Mir was shot at 12 times by militants outside his residence. He was literary lying in a pool of blood before being shifted to the hospital. He survived multiple surgeries and still unable to walk on properly even after 19 years of that incident. However, such brutal attack has not deterred his courage to fight back.
Revisiting those painful memories, Ghulam Mohamad Mir Sarpanch says, "Militant asked me what I was doing, I replied that we searching the missing cows of villagers. But, millitants shot me on my legs with 12 bullets in two rounds. Government has done nothing for me. I sold out everything to get propoer treatment". Mir contested Panchayat Elections as an independent candidate in 2018 and later in 2019. He won Block Develpoment Council Polls. Mir decided to Join BJP earlier this year. Mir blames regional parties like NC and PDP for deterioting law and order situation ans planned attack on BJP members and Sarpanches across the valley. Sarpanch Ghulam Mohamad Mir said "what will Government do ? Thses attackes on BJP members and Sarpanch have started after the release of NC and PDP leaders. I doubt it is done at their behest. Hizb' SalaUddin had said dont kill Sarpanch's but since these politicians were released, such brutal killings have started in valley, Security should be given to Panch and Sarpanch''.
