SC issues notices to Centre, RBI over plea refusing deposit of old currency notes

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to Centre, RBI on plea alleging that people are not being allowed to deposit demonetised currency notes till March 31, 2017 as promised.  

The apex court fixed the petitions on demonetisation for further hearing on March 10. The petitioner stated in his plea that the Central Reserve Bank is not allowing to deposit him Rs 71 lakh in old currency notes as it was announced by the Centre. The Apex court sought a reply from the Centre by March 11 in the matter.

 On Saturday Former Finance minister P Chidambaram again expressed his displeasure over demonetisation.  Dispelling the notion that cash crunch is now eased, Chidambaram saying , “The cash crunch is not easing. It may ease in the metropolitan cities, but in distant areas, 40 per cent of the ATMs do not have cash.”
