Naju Sheikh, a local Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead by unidentified men in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Monday. News Nation has learnt that Sheikh was shot dead at point blank range while he was taking his usual morning walk from Gopal Ghat to Niyalish para. He was stopped by unknown persons on a motorcycle with helmets before being shot dead. The murder of Behrampur leader is being investigated by local police. The body has been sent for post mortem. According to the victim's father, Sheikh met an unfortunate end because of Trinamool’s internal clash. The family has blamed local Trinamool leader Rajib behind this murder.

Earlier, Satyajit Biswas, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Krishnaganj area of Nadia district in West Bengal, was shot dead by unidentified men when he was attending a cultural programme recently. He was rushed to the nearby Shaktinagar district hospital, where he was declared dead, the police said. Reacting to the murder, the Trinamool Congress, blamed the BJP, which is trying to gain a foothold in the state, tweeted: "Satyajit Biswas our MLA was a dear colleague. Words fail me. Recently BJP leaders tried to stoke tension in the area. This was an orchestrated plan to eliminate him, designed to try and benefit BJP. People will give a befitting reply to perpetrators of this dastardly act.

TMC's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal also alleged that the BJP is behind the killing. However, the BJP rubbished the allegation, saying Biswas was killed because of TMC's internal tussle. Biswas was a two-term member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

On February 18, another Trinamool councillor Mithun Tikadar was allegedly shot at by unknown persons at the party office in Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. He has been admitted to hospital. While motive is unknown, the TMC has alleged that the BJP was behind the attack. The BJP, however, rejected the allegation.
