Washington:

The iconic Great Red Spot of Jupiter has been revealed by NASA via a stunning picture. The picture shows the incredible view of the crescent Jupiter's Great Red Spot as well as a series of storms that are shaped like white ovals known as the 'string of pearls'.

NASA had recently revealed a stunning view of the  'string of pearls'. A citizen scientist Roman Tkachenko created this new picture that shows the Great Red Spot using data from JunoCam instrument aboard the NASA's solar-powered Juno spacecraft.

The image shows a reddish long-lived storm called the Oval BA below the Great Red Spot. The picture was clicked on December 11, 2016 when NASA Juno performed its third close flyby of Jupiter.

The Juno spacecraft was about 4,58,800 kilometers from Jupiter when the picture was taken.

The Great Red Spot is a massive, spinning storm in the atmosphere of Jupiter, just like a hurricane on Earth. It is more than twice the size of Earth.

Ever since people started looking telescopes about 400 years ago, the Great Red Spot has been seen on Jupiter.
