Asian shotgun Championship: Indian shooter Kynan Chenai wins bronze in men's trap event

India's Kynan Chenai shot a bronze in the men's trap event at the 7th Asian Shotgun Championships at Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Tuesday. The Indian marksmen managed to hold his own in a low-scoring competition, which saw the gold medalist Abdulrahman Al Faihan shoot 118 out of 125. The 25-year-old Kynan finished third behind Abdulrahman Al Faihan and Talal Alrashidi of Kuwait.

It was a commendable performance by Kynan as the former World champion Khaled Almudhaf could place only sixth. Kynan had a series of 23, 23, 23, 23 and 24 during qualification and 30 in the final, beating Ali Hafezi of Iran to the bronze. With the other Indians — Zoravar Singh Sandhu (110) and Birendeep Sodhi (98) — shooting below par to be placed 17th and 36th in a field of 41 shooters, India could only take the seventh spot among the 13 teams, with a total of 324.
