Titanic II set to sail by 2022, to follow the original journey

New Delhi:

The Titanic II, a modern replica of the ill-fated ship that sank in the Atlantic, will make its maiden voyage while retracing the precise route of the original ship in 2022, sources said.

According to reports, the Titanic II, believed to cost of approximately $500 million, notably will have room for 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members, just like the original Titanic. However, the ship will be equipped with modern navigation and safety technology, including an adequate number of lifeboats.

The ‘unsinkable’ ocean liner, the largest in the world, sank on its maiden voyage in the Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, less than three hours while en route from Southampton to New York City after striking an iceberg.

The modern Titanic will take a two-week journey from Dubai to Southampton, England. The ship will then trace the original Titanic’s planned route from England to United States across the icy North Atlantic, the sources said.

After the successful journey, it plans to offer worldwide cruises, it said.

The Titanic II, an ocean liner, has recently resumed construction in China by the Blue Star Line after a long-running financial dispute held up the project for several years.

“The ship will follow the original journey, carrying passengers from Southampton to New York, “Blue Star Line chairman Clive Palmer told MSN, “but she will also circumnavigate the globe, inspiring and enchanting people while attracting unrivaled attention, intrigue and mystery in every port she visits.”

And she will probably inspire a number of "I'm king of the world" moments on her bow, Palmer said.

The ambitious project, Titanic II, is currently under construction by CSC Jinling in Nanjing, China intended to be a contemporary replica of the RMS Titanic.

The ship is reportedly looking to set sail sometime in mid-2022, roughly 110 years after the original ship set sail. However, the exact dates of sail have yet to confirmed, they said.
