It's Sheila Dikshit vs Manoj Tiwari in North East Delhi as Congress fields ex-CM for LS polls
The Congress has finally put an end to the speculations over alliance with Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi after it announced the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha election who will contest from the National Capital on Monday. In a surprise move, former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit returns to active politics and will contest from North East Delhi in the Lok Sabha polls. Others in the list include JP Agarwal from Chandni Chowk, Arvinder Singh Lovely from East Delhi, Ajay Maken from New Delhi, Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi and Rajesh Lilothia from North West Delhi.Â
Dikshit coming back to active politics can be translated into an all-out effort by the Congress to win as many seats in Delhi. In 2014, after BJP came to power at the Centre, Dikshit resigned as Kerala Governor in August, 2014. "I did what my heart said I should do," Dikshit had said after resigning. Dikshit, who served as Delhi chief minister from 1998 to 2013, was appointed Kerala governor in March just before the model code of conduct came into force for the Lok Sabha polls. Interestingly, the announcement comes on a day when Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari is likely to file his nomination for the General Elections.
